Pouyan Mansouri, a composer and musician specializing in the Tar, Setar, and Tombak, was born and is based in Tehran. He grew up surrounded by traditional Persian music, gradually expanding his interest toward experimental and contemporary sounds. With a formal education in Tar performance, Pouyan’s foundation lies in classical Persian music. However, he has always been interested in exploring beyond traditional boundaries, seeking new sonic possibilities.
In 2014, at the age of 25, he released his debut album, MAKHTOOM. While it draws on Persian classical roots, the album reflects his exploration of a more modern approach. Since then, he has released three more albums—one full-length and two shorter works—all instrumental, offering a fresh perspective compared to mainstream Persian music.
His early pieces, like Sar, Bibar and Sole are characterized by complex, polyphonic textures, creating rich, layered soundscapes. Over time, with albums like Pas and the most recently released album From, his style evolved towards minimalism, emphasizing simplicity and space in his music.
Noted for vivid imagery and storytelling, Pouyan’s compositions invite listeners on emotional journeys, where each piece tells its own story. Currently, he’s working on three new collections, experimenting further with unconventional sounds, electronic music, and percussion, aiming to create a deeper connection with his audience.
